It really has been a whirlwind kind of year with the whole fallout from the Alpha Dog and Stolen Boy projects coming down in rapid succession. The accolades have been plentiful and the awards quite humbling. But maybe one of the nicest moments of the entire experience was standing on stage at the Book Publicists of Southern California Irwin Awards night last month at the Sportsmens Lodge in Studio City, and getting my award from TV news icon Stan Chambers.
As a teen growing up, I always found myself ready for bed by 11:00 p.m., so I could never really stay up to watch the 11 o’clock news. But Stan would be there on Channel 5 in Los Angeles, beginning at ten o’clock, and that’s where I’d tune in to check out the day’s sensations, and, most importantly, the sports scores, before going to bed. Stan became a part of my growing up experience, so it was so cool when he handed me my award. I felt quite honored as the cyclone of sensations flooded my heart and Being.
To kick things off, legendary publicist Irwin Zucker, after whom the award was named, introduced his lovely and talented wife, Devra, and then went on to shamelessly promote his granddaughters’ latest book. Some things will never change. Go get ‘em Irwin…and thanks for everything.
