Michael Mehas accepts Irwin Award from TV news legend Stan Chambers.

It was actually very cool standing in front of a packed house last Wednesday night. It was the middle of the Irwin Awards and there Stolen Boy was centered in the spotlight. It has been a long year, and the book deserves everything it gets. It’s an excellent book that has received terrific reviews, and it has recently garnered nine prestigious book awards.

Besides the Irwin Award, they include a Gold Medal in fiction from Independent Publisher, the Best Book of the Year award in fiction from Books-And-Authors.net, Best New Fiction from National Best Books Awards, and first place from the Public Safety Writers Association for best novel. Stolen Boy has also been selected as a national finalist for best fiction from Indie Excellence Awards and National Best Books Awards, and Honorable Mention for best fiction from both the New York Book Festival and the Hollywood Book Festival.

On this night, author Michael Mehas faced the humility of winning an award in front of two-hundred or so of his supportive peers. The food was so-so, but the company was priceless.

The Irwin Award, named for Book Publicists of Southern California founder Irwin Zucker, was introduced in 1995 as a way to formally and publicly recognize BPSC members who conduct the best book sales/promotion campaigns. Honorees share with the BPSC audience the steps they took that led to the success of their book promotion campaign.

For Stolen Boy, the award was pretty simple. It won the Irwin for Best Fiction Campaign. We must admit, Stolen Boy worked hard for this honor, and is humbled for having won it. In doing so, we must thank Irwin Zucker, Brad Butler, Book Publicists of Southern California, and all its members for recognizing the hard work and achievements that can result therefrom.
